A Child's First Christmas

December night candlelight All things have changed
A new stocking hung Gently with care
The silence is stirred By soft babbles and coos
She calls to the angels somewhere

And her eyes sing remember and whisper my name
She smiles from a place In her soul
She reaches for something I think it is me
My heart fills with feelings Unknown

And the lights on the tree
       Seem much brighter  This year
       I believe there’s a  Much whiter snow
I haven’t loved  Christmas  For the longest of time
But this one here Before me has Opened my eyes
       It’s a child, my child
       Gabriela is filling my life
And the video’s running The diary is full
Each moment is captured  Each moment so new
       It’s a child’s first  Christmas

Every moment says, “Daddy, I give you my love”
Every sound is a song For the world
Every breath says,  “I’m growing I’m growing so strong”
Every thought is for you Gabi girl
So what can I give you For Christmas this year?
What present can show How I feel?
Just keep saying, “Yes” To these changes you bring
And know that this  love is for real

And the lights on the tree
       Seem much brighter This year
       I believe there’s a Much whiter snow
I haven’t loved Christmas For the longest of time
But this one here Before me has Opened my eyes
       It’s a child, my child
       Gabriela is filling my life
And the video’s running The diary is full
Each moment is captured Each moment so true
Cause I want to  remember These days of my life
When you love changed My world
And the fear in me died
       When you carried the promise
Like a rose in your hand
that told me dear Daddy You’ve become a man
       It’s a child’s first Christmas

All On This Christmas Night

All the children lie Cozy and nestled
Their hearts are aglow In a dream
For St. Nicholas comes And the morning shall be
So alive with sweet presents Those bundles of joy
La la hey Christmas is here

The parents are feeling Nostalgic
Remembering days long ago
When they ran down the stairs in a race to get where
Their own wishes were Cradled in ribbons and gold
La la hey Christmas is here

And the bells ring To the glory of Heaven
All of the world is so Filled with the Light
Let us all sing To the glory of Heaven
       All on this Christmas night
       All on this Christmas night

The family is coming Together
All wrapped in the Spirit of Love
Oh, their gift of connecting
Is worth more than anything Money could buy
on this Magical day
La la hey Christmas is here

And the bells ring To the glory of Heaven
All of the world is so Filled with the Light
Let us all sing To the glory of Heaven
       All on this Christmas night
       All on this Christmas night

Ballad of Christmas Tree

This is the story of One little tree
Alone upon the hill
Unprotected from the wind His life was never still
Twisted by the hands of time
Looking rather old
But the one little tree On the great big hill
Had a heart made out of gold

Every year at Christmas All would pass him by
No one ever noticed The tear there in his eye
Though his heart was Breaking
He knew there’d come a day
When a child would come There just for him
And carry him away

Oh, wait little tree Just wait for me
       Was whispered On the wind
       Don’t ever stop believing
I’ll soon be there  My friend

Then that magic Christmas When hope was in the air
All the people came and went
And still he’s standing there
When out of the mist came One little child
With purpose in her eye
And the one little tree And the one little child
Walked down the Mountainside

Oh, wait little tree Just wait for me
       Was whispered On the wind
       Don’t ever stop believing
I’ll soon be there  My friend

Where Is Santa Claus?

The tree is up the lights are on A fire’s burning bright
I’m staring into yesterday And dreaming of tonight
Where is Santa Claus?

Gabi shouts, “It’s one more day!”
With laughter and a dance
I see myself when I was young
And under that same trance
Where is Santa Claus?

      Here I am at 49 I’m feeling like I’m 4
The child in me won’t go away
      He’s always at the door
Every wish I’ve ever had Is swirling in the air
I still believe in Santa Claus
      I still believe he’s there
      It’s Christmas, Christmas, it's Christmas

I see the lights and smell the trees
Of all my Christmas past
No matter who or where I was
My heart would always ask
Where is Santa Claus?

My head has all the answers I can set my child straight
But how I love that moment When I throw that all away
Where is Santa Claus?

      Here I am at 49 I’m feeling like I’m 4
The child in me won’t go away
      He’s always at the door
Every wish I’ve ever had Is swirling in the air
I still believe in Santa Claus
      I still believe he’s there
      It’s Christmas, Christmas, it's Christmas

All I’m really asking is to Never let your child fade
Feed him with your hopes and wishes
Christmas is a time to Celebrate

Nothing On Earth

Rainbow lights all cradled On the green tree
Twinkling a message to us all
Ornaments reflecting All the joy
I feel When Christmas falls
And the candles reach for Heaven
And their flame rekindles Love

       Oh there’s nothing on Earth
       To compare with the scene
When the angels sing And Love is king
And Peace reigns o’er the Earth

Presents huddled Underneath a green tree
Visions fill us all
Choirs singing glory hallelujah
As the world applauds
And the thoughts return To heaven
And the hearts burst out With Love

       CHORUS

One great star so high atop The green tree
Whispers to us all
We are holy children of The Universe
Oneness is our song
And the hearts open to Heaven
And our actions show our love

       CHORUS

I Love (With All My Might)

There’s a little child born
Every waking breathing Moment
A little child crawls out of the past
Another heart is open
Another soul set free
Another life feels deeply At last
And the Winter coats the Countryside
Everything is still
The child says, “I’m hungry”
The child always will
And me, I’m gazing inward
At the ever growing light
And I love with all my might

There’s a little child heard
When the doors and walls Are opened
A little child with bright, true eyes
Another memory fading
Another limitation gone
A little hand much closer To the prize
And the winter whispers, “Change”
But not everybody hears
The child says, “I’m ready”
The child feels the fears
And me I;m gazing inward
At the ever growing light
And I love with all my might

The little one is calling The big one hears a voice
The little one says love me
The big one makes a choice
       It’s a very tender moment
It’s a turning point in life
As the star shines so   brightly in the sky

There’s a little child smiling In an unprotected field
Sitting in this worthiness just found
No longer in the shadows No longer one alone
Ah, laughter is a very precious sound
And the winter leans to Springtime
The ice is almost gone
The child tells the papa
“It’s time for moving on”
And I’m still gazing inward
At the ever growing Light
And I Love with all my might

       CHORUS

For all of my life  I have held on
       Pushing love away
Closing the doors Pulling the blinds
       Thinking I’d be OK
For all of those times  Something held on
The other side of what can be
Here in this time  Here in my hand
Here is my Love  my destiny

       CHORUS

1000 Santas

Walkin’ down the street I saw a jolly old Santa
Standing at a spot by a store
Turn around the corner Saw another little Santa
How many, how many more?

Used to believe there was Just one Santa
Used to believe that before
Now I look around at So many Santas
How many, how many more?

Over on the corner At the park At the playhouse
Everywhere I turn  A couple more
Riding on a float At my school at my party
       Santas behind every door  Whoa

One day soon a whole World of Santas
It’s an epidemic yes, indeed
Turn around, turn around No more Santas
Just one Santa if you please

You better watch out You better not cry
You better not pout  I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming To town

Over on the corner At the park At the playhouse
Everywhere I turn  A couple more
Riding on a float At my school at my party
       Santas behind every door  Whoa

One day soon a whole World of Santas
It’s an epidemic yes, indeed
Turn around, turn around No more Santas
Just one Santa if you please

Rappin’ Rudolph

Hey, hey my name is Rudolph I pull ol’ Santa’s sleigh
When I hear “ho” I turn on my nose And we all dash away

It wasn’t always like this This leading scene is new
Yeah people laughed Had names for me and said,
“Hey Dude you’re rude!”

I didn’t let that bug me I just went on my way
Yeah, things were cool I lived alone
Until that fateful day

The Winter was so foggy You couldn’t even See your hand
The elves they freaked Old Santa screamed
The reindeer made demands

They said, “We ain’t goin’ Nowhere
‘Cause we can’t even see
You guarantee a trip that’s Safe
And man this sleigh will leave!”

So Santa sat and puzzled He didn’t even have no way
No radar screens No ESP To guide his groovy sleigh

It happened I was walking Like a vision through the trees
My nose was on The path was bright
When Santa turned to see me

He said, “Hey, hey there Rudolph! Won’t you guide my sleigh?”
I said, “You must be kiddin, Jack…But how much will you pay?

We talked of long vacations Of benefits and dreams
Bartered with the other cats Until they said, “Yippee!”

Now I’m not one for braggin’ But whoa you shouldda seen
My nose aglow just lit the sky And we made history

So that’s my song and story To all you boys and girls
Rappin’ Rudolph sends you joy
And peace to fill your world

Go Rudolph, go Rudolph…

Deep December

Deep December California sun
Tempering the cold spell Christmas Pageant Went well
Sitting here with Jesus on my mind
Right here in this heart lies
Holiness Golden Light
Gifted by that Babe Of long ago

Deep December Season singing love
Reaching out reaching in
Tenderness touching friends
Sitting here with Jesus On my mind
Every day is Christmas morn
In every breath I’m reborn
Blessings to that Babe Of long ago

       Merry Christmas One and all
       Please remember Who you are
All this giving  All this joy
       Rekindled by that  Precious boy….Jesus

Deep December Heart is open wide
Maybe we could keep it so As o’er the Earth we all go
Could we keep he baby On our mind
Love in what we say and do
To our essence true blue
Peace on Earth would ensue
I commit, how ‘bout you? Oh…

       Merry Christmas One and all
       Please remember Who you are
All this giving  All this joy
       Rekindled by that  Precious boy….Jesus

Where Is Your Love?

I wanted love You gave me toys
I wanted Love much more Than anything you could buy
You could’ve taken  what You spent
and invested In some moments
Where you held me oh so close
That I could reach into your heart

I wanted Love you gave diversions
I wanted love just to feel The caring in your eyes
How many times did I get gifts
to soften that heartache Inside
When all I really wanted was
Just your open arms

       Where is your Love?
Is it lying there asleep Inside?
Does it ever ever call my name
and wish That I was there?
       Where is your Love?
Did it find a home  here in me
Can I call your name And have you back into My life
       Where is your Love?

I wanted Love You gave me distance
I wanted love to be The apple of your eye
Will all the warmth and joy Of Christmas
Ever take away the emptiness
Of what this life it could have been
If Dad, you chose to stay
If Dad, you chose to stay
If Dad, you chose to stay

       CHORUS

Ballad of Little Straw

Out in the sun midst a field of gold
Lived a holy grain So the story goes
Strong and tall fragrant, too
It was cut one eve When the moon was new

Into a cart o’er the dusty roads
To Bethlehem the straw did go
Found its way to a manger where
It was placed with gentle loving care

Then a man and a woman Arrived one night
They had no place to go
They gathered and blessed And laid the straw
Into a manger where They placed their child fair

To the child’s weight Did the straw respond
It gave support kept the Child warm
Soon it glowed as if Receiving light
Till in radiance it lit the night

There was something about That little boy
That brought this straw Consuming joy
The more it felt the more it gave
In this exchange a foundation was laid

This is a life of love and sharing
This is a life that grows
This is a life where We never know
Just where the path will go
Be like the straw and go

He never thought he’d  Leave the field
He never thought he’d  Cradle the boy
He never let one limitation Rob him of inherent joy
         So never think you’re Unimportant
For you might be the Chosen one
To lead this world Into the future
         Birth the light in someone

This is a life of love and sharing
This is a life that grows
This is a life where We never know
Just where the path will go
Be like the straw and go

He never thought he’d  Leave the field
He never thought he’d  Cradle the boy
He never let one limitation Rob him of inherent joy
         So never think you’re Unimportant
For you might be the Chosen one
To lead this world Into the future
         Birth the light in someone

Out in the sun midst a field of gold
Lived a holy grain So the story goes
Strong and tall fragrant, too
It was cut one eve  When the moon was new

Here (Christmas Eve 1994)

Here in the Light of Christmas Eve
We have gathered round
To celebrate the little boy
And the love that we have found

Deeper through the mystery Turn the life around
Birth the Christ That I might see
And hear the Holy Sound

How do I treat myself These days?
  How is my little child?
Do I let Love in? `What do I believe?
When was the last time  I let my self get wild?

Here in the glow of candlelight
People surrounding me
Do I connect or stand alone?
What are my boundaries?

Where does my love go?  Who do I serve?
What is the master of me?
  Am I forgiving?  Am I a friend?
When was the last time I  Set somebody free?

Here in this life  I have nothing to hide
I am open to all I can be
Hear me, oh, Lord  I am ready for more
Move me and use me   again

Here in the Grace of God I AM
Celebrating me
Can I let my Oneness live?
And feed me all I need

And in the silence  What do I hear?
Can I get out of the way?
Can I let go?   Can I let God?
Surrender my thinking  And know I’ll
be OK

        CHORUS

Merry Christmas This Year

US in Somalia Marines have hit the beach
There’ll be food upon The table
All the little ones can eat
Yugoslavia is dying People call it genocide
UN is playing cautious
They will wait to choose a side

In Russia there is chaos As Democracy takes hold
Corporations loom like Vultures
Salivating for the gold
South America is quiet
Is it calm before the storm?
The global population’s Either too cold or too warm

Merry Christmas,  Merry Christmas to you
       Merry Christmas this year

Clinton picking cabinetHis kingdom taking shape
Fleetwood Mac will play The White House
Rays of hope still radiate
There’s a rainbow over Washington
With Boomers flooding in People dance a little bit
And pray to God he’s genuine

Registers are ringing As the media keeps score
Recession is it over? Can we spend a little more?
Will this country come together in this Wintertime of Love?Or will hatred and confusionKill the rising white dove?

Merry Christmas,  Merry Christmas to you
       Merry Christmas this year

The Golden State Is tarnished In a legislative squeeze
The Grinches and the Scrooges laugh
And decorate their greed
While the multicolored Masses wonder
Where the water’s been
Then cuddle up to Tinsletown At sunset once again

SLO Town sleeps on slowly As Pinard et al take oath
It’s honesty in office With the Peace of God Invoked
While the rent still hugs a Thousand
We squirm for what is fair
And spin our wheels In Paradise
With beauty everywhere

Merry Christmas,  Merry Christmas to you
       Merry Christmas this year

            Precious Earth   Turning ‘round
            life death coming down
            Every person with a story
            Every moment worth  Exploring
            Every heart seeking home
            Every soul not alone
            God is on our side
            God is on our side

On Murray Street we Cultivate a future day by day
We slip into the past When we swallow too much strain
The tapes are almost ready Erin needs more time
Gabriela is precocious One would say she isn’t shy

And me I’ve just turned 40 But I’m going on 15
I’m so frightened by these Challenges
And yes I often scream
But I can’t remember living Without Erin or the Gab
And I’m happy With my family
Life’s really not so bad

Merry Christmas,  Merry Christmas to you
       Merry Christmas this year
